Canadian Student Orientation Information
Welcome New Warriors!
The first year of college is a very exciting time for students. Make sure you begin with a great start by keeping track of the Wayne State University deadlines, fees, placement testing, and your New Student Orientation sessions.
Wayne State University’s orientation is a required program designed to help you excel academically, adjust to collegiate life, meet new friends, classmates and representatives from key service units along the way.
We look forward to meeting you and helping to make sure your transition as a Wayne State Warrior is as smooth as possible.
New Student Orientation Fees
There is a non-refundable fee for orientation that will automatically be added to your tuition bill. The fee includes all activities for the day, breakfast and lunch, parking, and orientation materials.
Pleas note that there is a $10 guest fee charged for every parent, relative or friend who attends the Student Orientation program, this includes weekday and Saturday Orientation dates. This $10 fee must be paid on the day of the program by check or money order, made payable to Wayne State University. Note: Wayne State University only accepts personal checks containing a preprinted name and address.
New Student Orientation Dates & Times
Incoming Canadian Student Orientation Dates for 2008 begin in August. Each day begins with an 8:30 a.m. continental breakfast /check-in and concludes with a bookstore tour at 6:00 p.m. Students that arrive late will need to reschedule the orientation session.
Canadian Freshman student Orientation dates: August 14, 15
Canadian Transfer student Orientation date: August 6
Three Steps of New Student Orientation
- Take your Placement/Qualifying Examinations
- Attend your New Student Orientation Session
- Attend the three-day iStart program
Prior to Attending Orientation be sure to complete these steps:
- Initiate your Pipeline Internet account – http://pipeline.wayne.edu
- Check your Pipeline e-mail regularly.
- Apply for financial aid.
- Apply for housing, if needed.
- Complete placement testing before Orientation.
- Memorize your Student ID and Access ID number. You will need to provide it during the orientation process.
- Inform your parents of Parent Orientation.
- Read WSU information sent to you in the mail.
Register for Orientation
- Log in to WSU Pipeline – http://pipeline.wayne.edu
- Click the Student Tab
- Click the Sign up for Orientation icon on the right hand side
- Select the New student Orientation program to pull up the full list of orientation sessions.
- Click the Sign Up icon that corresponds to the orientation session that you would like to register for.
- Please be sure to sign up for a session that corresponds to your incoming level (freshman or transfer).
Remember to check your WSU AccessID E-mail! Your Orientation confirmation will be sent to you through your WSU E-mail. For help with your AccessID or password, call the Computing & Information Technology Help Desk at (313) 577-4778.

Special Notice to Canadian Students
Canadian students should contact the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) to verify if special documentation or additional meetings are necessary. They can be reached at (313) 577-3422 or via e-mail to oissmail@wayne.edu. The Department of Homeland Security mandates all new and transfer international students to physically check-in with their school. Thus, before attending the Canadian Student Orientation, we highly recommend you to complete the New International Student Check-In Procedure Online Form in order to expedite your check-in process.
In addition, please submit a copy of the following documents to the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) at the orientation:
- Stamped Form I-20 (all 3 pages)
- Form I-94 (a 3” x 4” white card)
- Passport, birth certificate, or proof of Canadian citizenship
- Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP Card)
You will not be cleared to register for classes without completing the online check-in procedure, submitting a copy of these documents, and attending the new Canadian student orientation.
