Freshmen
All freshmen must take the Mathematics Placement Exam unless you receive credit via AP or CLEP. The English Qualifying Examination is required if you do not meet the appropriate ACT criteria. Go to the Testing Website from the link on this page and go to “New Students” or call the office at (313) 577-3400. If you intend to pursue one of the following academic programs/majors, you will also need to take the Chemistry Placement Examination:

Transfer Students
We recommend that transfer students consult with an advisor to determine the appropriate examination(s) to take.

When to Take Your Tests
Appropriate placement into English, mathematics, and chemistry courses is an important first step to academic success. Be sure to make your reservations to take the appropriate Placement/Qualifying exams so you can register for those courses in fall 2008. Your ACT English score can determine placement into freshman English, if you meet the criteria.
